İzmir City Council

Located along the Kordon in Alsancak, the İzmir City Council was designed as a transparent, participatory public building that opens the space of civic representation to the everyday life of the city, and was prepared for a competition in 2023. Rising from the square and stretching toward the sea, the sloping roof turns the building into a ground that is both viewed from the city and offers views over it. The glass façade makes council activities visible from outside, establishing a transparent relationship between the administration and citizens. The atrium and circular staircase at the heart of the building create a visual and physical connection between floors. The council chamber, committee rooms, civil society units and multi-purpose spaces were planned to adapt to changing needs. Thanks to operable panels, committee rooms can be combined for larger meetings or divided to serve small working groups. Modular, demountable units can be rearranged for events such as fairs, exhibitions and markets.
